Bishop Gwendolyn Phillips Coates is the founder of God Answers Prayer International Fellowship of Churches and Pastor of God Answers Prayer Ministries of Los Angeles, CA. She is launching an innovative agenda designed to rebuild lives, churches and communities through several new ministries. Standing In The GAP: a men’s service ministry; L. I. F. E. (Living Intentionally For Eternity): physical, mental and spiritual health with emphasis on wholeness and healthy aging; Enrichment Project: community service, entrepreneurial, and outreach projects, School of Purpose: church planting, enrichment and educational training; as well as developing good spiritual habits for students, ministers, and leaders.
Bishop Gwendolyn has previously served in the AME denomination as Pastor of Walker Chapel AME, Seattle, Gregg Memorial AME, Omaha, and Assoc. Pastor Bethel AME, Omaha with her late husband Presiding Elder Leander Coates, and Dominion Assembly of Christian Churches as their first elected female bishop..
She has been active in other areas, including being Founder and Executive Director of Another Chance For Life, a nonprofit organization and hosts Another Chance Women’s Conference & Sister’s Summit, CEO of Gwendolyn Phillips Coates Ministries under which the following entities operate: God Answers Prayer International Ministries, God Answers Prayer Records & Philabob Publishing, an international team that use their gifts to reach the world through music, preaching, teaching, books, seminars, retreats and conferences. Through God Answers Prayer Records, she has independently produced and released 2 solo CD's Grateful and It's Christmas. Rejoice! She is author of Waiting on My Lunch Date: A Journey Through Grief and a Path to Joy; Prepare To Meet The Bridegroom: An interactive Spiritual Formation Bible Study and I’m So Grateful: 10 Things To Be Grateful For (Philabob Publishing), contributing writer to the Wisdom & Grace Devotional Bible for Young Women of Color (Nia Publishing) and several Bible Study series.
She has a BA in Business Management and BS in Church Administration; holds a Master of Arts in Christian Ministry –Pastoral Counseling concentration; and a Doctor of Ministry – Strategic Leadership degree from Faith Evangelical College and Seminary. Dissertation Topic: “THE CHURCHES RESPONSE TO ILLNESS, DYING, DEATH AND BEREAVEMENT”
She travels the world as a preacher, revivalist, vocalist, author and workshop presenter. Topics to include: A Sacred Trust: Boundary Issues for Clergy and Spiritual Leaders, Grief and Loss, Male/Female Relationships, Diversity and Multiculturalism, Suddenly Single, Divorce Prevention, Healthcare Disparities, Crisis Intervention, Parenting Skills, Emotional Issues, Encouraging the Body of Christ, and many other topics tailored to the need of an audience. The worldwide ministry of singing, conference teaching and revival preaching of this spirit-filled woman of God has been received in Japan. Senegal (West Africa), Barbados (West Indies), Kingston (Jamaica), and all across the US. Her ministry has reached radio, television and print media on The Word Network, Seattle TBN, The Seattle Channel, Ebony Magazine, Colors NW, The Seattle Medium, The Source, Senior Digest, and many more…..
